Description

Fiery redheaded reporter Roxanne Prize was not only one of the first people befriended by Paul (later the world-famous Captain Satellite) Mann when he arrived in Major City, but she soon became his girlfriend as well. Outwardly, they seemed the picture of a happy couple, but both of them were keeping secrets. Roxanne's secret was that she was trying to dig up clues to the mystery of Paul Mann's real background.

When Roxanne's story exposing what she believed was Paul Mann's true identity broke, it drove a wedge between the two of them that was impossible to overcome. To make matters worse, it soon became clear that Roxanne's reasoned deduction of Mann's "true" identity was, in fact, wrong. Having lost both her journalistic credibility and the man whom she had genuinely grown to love, Roxanne more or less went into hiding.

Roxanne Prize returned to the limelight when she convinced Mortimer (Blue Behemoth) Kane and Danny (Drone Man) Graham to help her devise a secret identity of her own. With their scientific genius and her ingenuity, they fashioned the disguise of Firegirl, the Princess of Pyro. After a brief solo crimefighting career, Firegirl joined Blue Behemoth, Drone Man, Captain Satellite and other heroes in the mission to stop the attack of the Macro Warriors on Major City. In the aftermath of this titanic battle, the super team the Invincible Alliance was born.

Today, Firegirl seeks to redeem herself for her past transgressions and perhaps make the world a better place in the bargain. She appears to have made peace with her failed relationship with Captain Satellite, though seems oblivious to the crush that the Blue Behemoth harbors for her. Will the blue-haired beast with the mind (and heart) of a man be able to confess his true feelings? Stay tuned!

Firegirl has turned out to be a bit of a minor phenom here on dA. Not bad when you consider that I had never even drawn her before this year. In fact, her name wasn't even "Firegirl" until fairly recently.

I've had a fire-themed superheroine in my head for some time, to say nothing of reporter Roxanne Prize. Eventually, the two became merged in my head, but I was always reluctant to draw them because of my weaknesses (more than usual) in drawing females. Still, it felt wrong to exclude her from the big "group" picture I did for ~Sarapuu a few months ago. As I was making the list of everyone, I decided that I couldn't bear to officially name her with the terrible pun ("Miss Fire") that had been her default name. And lo, she became Firegirl.

Firegirl really caught a lot of people's imagination, it seems. Her design is based on 1940s-style superheroines and I think folks really got into that. Already, you can find her in the galleries of people whose work I deeply admire.

She shows up in some other pics too, if you look around. And now, she makes her full color debut in my gallery. How appropriate that she is my 100th deviation in my main gallery!

Eee! Ray gun! Now she's doubly dangerous. Hee.

Nice to see the cheeky reporter girl actually get a shot as a superhero rather than being doomed to a lifetime as shoulder-candy.
